“THE YEAR OF JUBILEE”
TEXT: Leviticus 25:1-22
INTRO: What is a year of Jubilee? How does it apply to me?
I. THE SABBATH PRINCIPLE (Lev. 25:1-4).
A. God created the heavens & earth in 6 days (Gen. 1:31).
B. God rested on the 7th day (Gen. 2:1-3).
C. God commanded us to observe the Sabbath (Ex. 20:8-11).
D. The Sabbath was a perpetual covenant (Ex. 31:12-17).
E. Jesus observed the Sabbath (Lk. 4:16).
F. The Sabbath is for man & under Jesus (Mk. 2:27-28).
G. From 7th day to 1st day (Acts 20:7; 1Cor. 16:2).
H. There is still a Sabbath rest we’re to enter (Heb. 4:1-11).
I. A sabbath for the land every 7 years (Lev. 25:1- 4).
II. THE YEAR OF JUBILEE (Lev. 25:8-22).
A. The year of Jubilee was every 50th year (v. 8).
B. A trumpet was sounded to begin the year of Jubilee (v. 9).
C. It was a year of liberty and restoration (v. 10).
1.Captives were liberated (v. 10a).
2. Possessions were restored (v. 10b).
3. Families were reunited and restored (v. 10c).
D. The year of Jubilee was also a sabbath (vv. 11-12).
E. Observing brought blessing (vv. 18-22).
F. Under the new covenant, we can potentially experience Jubilee anytime!
CONCLUSION: Let’s together enter a sabbath season in preparation for a year of Jubilee - for a season of bearing much fruit that
remains (Jn. 15:1-2, 4-5,7- 8). This first requires a season of pruning. Please be praying for me and Jubilee during this time. Please be a part of the process by continuing to be faithful your role at Jubilee, your observance of the Sabbath, and your faithful stewardship. Perhaps God is speaking to you to enter a sabbath season in your own personal life as well.
