Debunking Faith Busters (Part 1: What About the Bible?)

“DEBUNKING FAITH BUSTERS”

Pt. 1: What About the Bible?

INTRO: This morning I’m going to begin a new series of messages on the theme, “Debunking Faith Busters.” Every belief system requires faith. These matters can’t be 100% proven scientifically. Faith isn’t typically a blind leap, but rather a decision we make partially based on reason and evidence. Let’s consider the evidence for the trustworthiness of God’s Word – the Bible.

WHAT ABOUT THE BIBLE?

Christianity is largely based on the teachings in the Bible. If the Bible can’t be trusted, Christianity has no solid leg to stand on. So, how can we trust the Bible to be true?

HOW DID WE GET THE BIBLE (Luke 24:44; 2Tim. 3:16)?

I. THE BIBLE CLAIMS TO BE THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD (2Tim. 3:16; 2Pet. 1:21).

II. THE BIBLE APPEARS TO BE THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD.

  1. It’s existence.
  2. It’s authenticity.
  3. It’s eyewitnesses.
  4. It’s humble transparency and vulnerability.
  5. It’s preservation (Psalm 12:6-7).
  6. It’s timeless message.

III. THE BIBLE PROVES TO BE THE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD.

  1. Personal Transformation.
  2. Cultural Influence.
  3. Science’s Confirmation.
  4. Archaeology’s Confirmation.
  5. Fulfilled Prophecy.

CONCLUSION (Psalm 12:6-7): Have you chosen to trust the Bible as God’s inspired authoritative Word? If not, will you? Faith is a choice! Believing the Bible is God’s inspired, authoritative Word won’t do you much good if you don’t abide in it (John 8:31)!
