Grave Matters Conclusion

“GRAVE MATTERS – Conclusion”

INTRO: Partial preterism believes some of the prophecies associated with the end-times have already been fulfilled.

  1. God’s kingdom will keep advancing amidst opposition (Mt. 13:31-33; Acts 3:20-21; Ps. 110:1; 1Co. 15:25; Heb. 10:12-13).
  2. Jesus will return, resurrection, judgment, eternal state.
  • Resurrection & judgment close together at end (Jn. 5:28-29; 6:40; 11:23-24; 12:48; Acts 24:15; 1Cor. 15:21-24, 52).

I. WILL THERE BE AN IMMINENT RAPTURE? But First:

  1. The Spirit coming & time to reach world (Acts 1:4-5, 8).
  2. Peter getting old and dying by crucifixion (Jn. 21:18-19).
  3. The Jerusalem temple being destroyed (Matt. 24:1-2, 30).
  4. The falling away (2Thess. 2:1-3).
  5. Reformation? Israel becoming a nation? Gospel preached to all nations (Matt. 24:14)?
  6. Time for true prophetic words to be fulfilled?

II. WILL THERE BE A FUTURE 7-YEAR TRIBULATION?

  1. No generation is exempt from potential tribulation and persecution (Jn. 16:33; Acts 14:22; 2Tim. 3:12; Rev. 1:9).
  2. Does Matthew 24 speak mostly of the past or future?
    1. Context: destruction of Jerusalem’s temple (vv. 1-3).
    2. Questions: When & what signs (Mk. 13:4; Lk. 21:7)?
    3. Signs preceding temple’s destruction (vv. 4-33).
    4. Who is “you” and “this generation” (v. 34)?
    5. Son of Man coming on clouds (v. 30) – prophetic terminology used to describe God’s coming in judgment (Isa. 19:1; Ps. 18:9-12; 104:2-3; Joel 2:1-2; Zeph. 1:14-15; Nah. 1:3).
  3. Could most of Revelation have already happened (Rev. 1:1, 3-4; 22:6, 10; Dan. 8:26)?
  4. “shortly” “near” and “at hand” (Phil. 2:19, 24; 3Jn. 1:14; Matt. 24:32-33; 26:45-46; Jn. 2:13; 6:4; 7:2; 11:55).

III. ARE WE IN THE LAST DAYS?

  1. Could some last days Scriptures refer to the last days of the temple and its sacrificial system (Gen. 49:1; Acts 2:14-17; Heb. 1:1-2; 1Cor. 10:11; 1Jn. 2:18; 1Cor. 7:29, 31; 1Pet. 4:7; Ja. 5:8-9; 1Tim. 3:1)?

Conclusion: Could the future be more optimistic than you’ve thought? Let’s make disciples until Jesus comes (Mt. 28:18-19)!
