How To Pray Like Jesus – Part 1

“HOW TO PRAY LIKE JESUS”

At Jubilee we are in 40 Days of Prayer: 1) For a specific personal miracle. 2) For a church-wide refreshing. Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them to pray (Lk. 11:1-2). Jesus gave us a pattern for prayer (Matt. 6:9-13). We learn prayer best by praying. What is God saying to you?

LEARN TO HAVE A DAILY TIME OF PRAYER AND LEARN TO PRAY THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY!

  1. Intimacy requires privacy & focus (not multi-tasking).
  2. Praying without ceasing requires ongoing connection.
  3. To have a daily time of prayer, choose a prayer time, length, plan (the Lord’s prayer) and place.
  4. To pray throughout your day, pray whenever you feel anxious (Phil. 4:6-7) and use spare moments to pray.
  5. Pray a lot in tongues (1Cor. 14:4a; Jude 1:20).

PRAYING THE LORD’S PRAYER (Mat. 6:9-13; 1Thes. 5:17-18).

I. Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. (Matt. 6:9) Praise God for who He is and thank Him for what He’s done.

II. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. (Matt. 6:10) Pray for God’s kingdom to come wherever its lacking (Rom. 14:17) and yield to His will (Lk. 22:41-42).

III. Give us this day our daily bread. (Matt. 6:11) Pray for God to meet your needs (family, church).

IV. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. (Matt. 6:12) Pray for forgiveness (Ps. 139:23-24; 32:5; 1Jn. 1:9) and to forgive others (Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13; Matt. 5:44).

V. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. (Matt. 6:13a) Pray for strength to resist temptation (1Cor. 10:13) and deliverance from evil and the evil one (Luke 10:19; Eph. 6:10-11, 18; 1Pet. 5:8-9).

VI. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matt. 6:13b) Praise God by declaring His sovereignty over all and thank Him for hearing your prayers.

CONCLUSION: Amen – So be it! Think and talk in alignment with what you prayed (Heb. 4:14; 10:23). Ask Jesus to teach you to pray. Pray!!!
