Jubilee Makeover [Jubilee Culture & Core Values]

“JUBILEE MAKEOVER”

[JUBILEE CULTURE & CORE VALUES]

INTRO: A makeover can be defined as the act or process of making changes to improve the appearance or effectiveness of someone or something. In order to improve our cultural relevance and kingdom fruitfulness, it is important that we do some evaluating and updating after 19 years of ministry. Where are we? Where does God want us to be (Prov. 19:18a NASB; Hab. 2:2b)?

I. CORE VALUES & CULTURE.

  1. CORE VALUES DEFINITION: The guiding principles that dictate behavior and action, and define your culture.
  2. CULTURE DEFINITION: A way of life of a group of people – the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next.

II. JUBILEE’S CORE VALUES & CULTURE.

  1. AUTHENTIC LOVE.
    1. The two great commandments – loving God and loving others (Matt. 22:36-40).
      1. Loving God results in loving others (1Jn. 4:7-8, 12, 20-21).
    2. Without love, nothing else matters (1Cor. 13:1-3)!
    3. This kind of love can’t be faked, but must be authentic.
    4. Our world is starving for authentic love!
    5. Love illustrated (Lk. 10:25-37). Love sees the need, is compassionate, and does what it can to meet the need.
    6. Cultivating Authentic Love: Cultivate your relationship with God (1Jn. 4:20-21; 3:16-18) and your love for others (1Jn. 4:18).
    7. PRACTICING AUTHENTIC LOVE (1Pet. 1:22b; 4:8):
      1. Let your actions answer the core questions of, “Do I matter?” and “Do you really care?”
      2. Be merciful, accepting, and forgiving, not judgmental.
      3. Treat ALL people with respect and dignity.
      4. To love people, you have to engage people.
