Living a Transformed Life (Romans 12)

“LIVING A TRANSFORMED LIFE” (Rom. 12)

INTRO: We now begin the practical section of Romans (chs. 12-16), which focuses on Living a Transformed Life.

I. TRANSFORMED PEOPLE SUBMIT THEIR BODY & MIND TO GOD (Rom. 12:1-2).

  1. Submit your Body to God (v. 1).
    1. To give our life to God includes our body (1Cor. 7:4a).
    2. The bridegroom (Christ) has authority over His bride’s (the church’s) body (1Cor. 12:27).
  2. Submit your Mind to God (v. 2).
    1. Be transformed rather than conformed to the world.
    2. Being transformed comes by the renewing of our mind, which results in demonstrating God’s will.
    3. To renew the mind requires that we bring our thinking into alignment with God’s kingdom ways.

II. TRANSFORMED PEOPLE USE THEIR GIFTS TO HUMBLY SERVE OTHERS (Rom. 12:3-8).

  1. Walk in Humility (v. 3).
  2. Live in Community (vv. 4-5).
  3. Serve Joyfully (vv. 6-8).
    1. Gift Principles:
      1. Our gifts are given by the grace of God (v. 6a).
      2. We’re called to use our gifts to serve the body (v. 6).
      3. We’re to use our gifts in proportion to our faith (v. 6)
      4.  Be generous, diligent and cheerful in the use of your gifts to serve (v. 8).
    2. Gift Categories:
      1. Kinetic (do first): Prophecy (mover), Ministry/serving (doer)
      2. Cognitive (think first): Teaching (contemplator), Giving (producer), Leadership (shaper)
      3. Emotive (feel first): Exhortation (influencer), Mercy (responder)

III. TRANSFORMED PEOPLE WALK IN LOVE (Rom. 12:9-21).
