Thankful For Justification By Faith (Romans 5)

INTRO: Justification by faith (”just as if I’d never sinned”) – a guilty person’s record being pronounced clean.

  1. Peace with God (v. 1). This is a deep inner need of mankind.
  2. Access to God’s grace (v. 2a). You have the key to grace’s door!
  3. Hope of the glory of God (v. 2b).
    1. God’s glory will cover the earth (Num. 14:20-21; Isa. 60:2)!
    2.    Glory – God’s essence or divine [weighty] splendor and the honor that glory deserves (1Ki. 8:10-12).
      1. Jesus will return with great glory (Matt. 24:30b).
      2. Jesus will be glorified forever (Rev. 5:11-13)!
  4. Glory in tribulation (pressure, trouble, affliction) (vv. 3-4).
  • Tribulation -> Perseverance -> Character -> Hope
  1. The Holy Spirit (v. 5b)
  2. The love of God in our heart (by the Holy Spirit (v. 5a).
    1. Example: God sending Christ to die for the needy, not the deserving (vv. 6-8). Love sacrifices self for others.
  3. Reconciled to God (vv. 9-21; see also 1Cor. 15:22, 45).
    1. From enemies of God to reconciled to God (vv. 9-12).
      1. The coming wrath (Mat. 3:7; Rom. 1:18; Eph. 5:6; Col. 3:6).
      2. Delivered from the wrath to come (1Thess. 1:10; 5:9)!
    2. Death in Adam vs. Life in Christ (vv. 13-17)
      1. Reign in life (v. 17b; Rom. 8:37; 2Cor. 2:14a; Rev. 5:9-10)!
    3. Grace abounds more than sin (vv. 18-21)!
Disobedience Obedience
Sin (abounded) Righteousness (gift of)
Offense Grace (abundance of)
Enemies of God Reconciled to God
Condemnation Justification (forgiveness)
Judgment Saved from wrath
Death Eternal life
  Free gift
  Reigning in life

CONCLUSION: We inherit the fruit of the 1st Adam by doing nothing; the last Adam by believing (Rom. 5:15a, 16a)!
