  1. He overestimated his strength & underestimated his vulnerability (Matt. 26:31-35; 1Cor. 10:12 MSG).
    • Are you doing the same?
  2. He feared the disapproval of others (Matt. 26:58, 69-70; Prov. 29:25).
    • Do you fear the disapproval of others?
  3. He spoke without thinking (Matt. 26:71-75).
    • Do you often speak without thinking (Ja. 1:19-20; 3:5-6)?

II. WHAT SHOULD WE DO WHEN WE STUMBLE? [3 Things Peter Did When He Stumbled]

  1. He Grieved (Matt. 26:75b; Ps. 51:17).

    2. Don’t try to avoid feeling the pain.
    3. Don’t rush the process.

  2. He Looked to His Small Group for Support (Mk. 16:10; Jn. 20:19-20, 26; Matt. 18:20; 1Cor. 12:24-25).
    • Those who isolated themselves missed out!
  3. He Cast Himself on God’s Mercy (1Pet. 1:3; 5:7).
