The Oil Crisis – Pt. 2

“THE OIL CRISIS – Pt. 2”
TEXT: Zechariah 4:1-6, 11-14
REVIEW: There is an oil crisis in the church – an inner oil we all need to keep us properly functioning in the day in which we live and in the coming days (Matt. 25:1-13). How can we access the constant supply of the indwelling Spirit?
I. THE DIVINE OIL PIPELINE (vv. 1-2).
A. The vision of a golden lampstand with 7 lamps, each having a pipe running from a bowl above (vv. 1-2).
B. bowl->pipes->lamps->lampstand->light
II. THE DIVINE SOURCE OF OIL – 2 OLIVE TREES (vv. 3-6, 11-14).
A. An olive tree on each side of the bowl supplies the bowl with an ongoing supply of oil (v. 3).
B. Spiritually significant stuff happens by God’s Spirit, not by man’s ability (vv. 4-6).
C. The two olive trees had branches that drip oil into the bowl through two gold pipes (vv. 11-12).
D. These two olive trees stand beside the Lord and are anointed for this purpose of supplying oil (vv. 13-14).
III. LIFE APPLICATIONS:
A. We’re called to be brightly shining lamps bringing God’s light to our world (Matt. 5:14-16).
1. The lamp is a 7-fold lamp, representing the 7-fold Holy Spirit (Lk. 12:35; Rev. 4:5b; Isa. 11:1-2).
B. Realize that your effectiveness doesn’t come by your own abilities and strengths, but by God’s Spirit (Zech. 4:6)!
C. Connect to the source/pipes regularly in order to replenish the oil supply and keep your tank full (from above).
1. The Word (v. 6; Lk. 24:32).
2. The Spirit (v. 6).
D. Keep the pipes cleaned out so as not to restrict the flow of oil.
E. Ask God for an increased pipe diameter/capacity.
CONCLUSION: “Get on fire for God and let people come and watch you burn.” – John Wesley. What does your oil gauge read? What are you going to do about it?
