”By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and through it he being dead still speaks.” (Hebrews 11:4)
Both Cain and his brother Abel offered up a sacrifice of worship to God (Genesis 4:1-8). God rejected Cain’s offering but accepted Abel’s offering. It wasn’t about the type of offering offered, but the heart from which it was offered. When Cain’s offering was rejected because of sin, he became angry and killed Abel. Cain’s offering flowed from righteousness and faith – faith that God would accept his offering.
Even though Cain is long dead, his offering still speaks from the time Hebrews was written on! We give offerings to God by faith – faith God will accept our offering flowing from a righteous heart. Faith is not just asking God to give you something, it is also out of a pure heart giving an offering to God trusting that it will be acceptable to God. The things we do by faith have the capacity to live on long after we die!
