Why we worship the way we do
- Why do we stand?
“Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD; Praise Him, O you servants of the LORD! You who stand in the house of the LORD, In the courts of the house of our God.” (Ps 135:1-2)
- Why do we sing?
“Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!” (Ps. 47:6)
- Why do we sing new songs?
“Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, And His praise in the assembly of saints.” (Ps. 149:1)
- Why do we use musical instruments?
“Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals!” (Ps. 150:3-5)
- Why do we clap our hands?
“Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!” (Ps. 47:1)
- Why do we lift our hands?
“Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.” (Ps. 134:2)
- Why do we lift our voice?
“Oh, bless our God, you peoples! And make the voice of His praise to be heard.” (Ps. 66:8)
- Why do we shout?
“Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” (Ps. 32:11)
- Why do we dance?
“Let them praise His name with the dance; …Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;…” (Ps. 149:3; 150:4)
- Why do we use banners?
“We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners!” (Ps. 20:5)
- Why are there utterances in tongues and prophecies?
“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will…speak with new tongues;…” (Mk. 16:17) “For to one is given…the word of knowledge…to another prophecy, …to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.” (1Cor. 12:8, 10)
“I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.” (1Cor. 14:5, 39-40)
