Mark’s Memos

" Let Us Go On to Perfection Pt. 2 "
October 24, 2024

The author of Hebrews tells us to learn the basic principles of Christ, and then move on while retaining those principles (Hebrews 6:1a). The author now goes on to list six elementary or basic principles of Christ in the remaining part of verse one and in verse two.

Six Elementary Principles of Christ (Hebrews 6:1-2):

1. Repentance from dead works (v. 1b) – from trusting in our good works for salvation apart from Christ – from trusting the O.T. law for salvation.

2. Faith toward God (v. 1c) – salvation is a gift that comes from God as we put our faith/trust in God. Notice Christianity is turning from something (sin) and to someone (faith toward God).

3. The doctrine of baptisms (v. 2a) – baptism into the body of Christ, baptism in water, baptism in the Holy Spirit, baptism of fire, etc.

4. The laying on of hands (v. 2b) – for impartation and healing.

5. The resurrection of the dead (v. 2c) – we have the hope that all who die will one day be resurrected.

6. Eternal judgment (v. 2d) – the resurrection is followed by the final judgment and entering the eternal state.

If these are the elementary principles of Christ, what are the deeper truths of Christ?
