“By faith Joseph, when he was dying, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel, and gave instructions concerning his bones.” (Heb. 11:22; Gen. 50:24-25)
By faith Joseph, as he was dying, asked that they not bury his bones in Egypt (Gen. 50:22-26). Joseph had faith that the Israelite’s destiny was not Egypt, but Canaan, and that’s where he wanted to be buried (Gen. 50:24-25). When Joseph died, he was still in Egypt, so they embalmed him and put him in a coffin in Egypt (Gen. 50:26), but when Moses brought the Israelites out of Egypt, he took the bones of Joseph with them because of the charge Joseph had given his brethren (Ex. 13:19), and eventually his bones were buried in Canaan (Josh. 24:32). Faith believes and acts on what God has said – whether or not it’s convenient! What has God said to you that is calling for a faith and obedience response?
