“If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.” (Heb. 12:7-8)
We saw last week that God chastens those He loves and considers His children. This chastening isn’t punishment as much as it is training for righteousness. We’re called to endure God’s chastening, knowing that His chastening reveals that He considers us His children. To endure chastening includes not trying to take shortcuts by compromising to reduce the pain.
