“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” (Hebrews 11:13)
We tend to think of faith as something we exercise hoping God will for us something we desire. Although that is one of the ways faith is expressed, notice in Hebrews 11:13 and says that those mentioned in this faith chapter died in faith NOT having received the promises. Not receiving what you prayed for doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t have enough faith! Faith doesn’t always receive in this life what it is believing God for. Faith perseveres until what is believed for is received or until one dies, whichever comes first. Faith sees the promise through the eyes of faith in a way that brings assurance of the promise. What we’re believing for may be answered after we die! Also, our faith will be rewarded in eternity!
