“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” (Heb. 12:1)
Hebrews 11 gave us a cloud of Old Testament witnesses who walked by faith and set examples for us to walk by faith. The Christian life is often compared to a race. Running a race requires endurance. A runner will do best if not carrying excess weight that will slow him or her down. We’re called to lay aside any weight or sin that is a hindrance to our spiritual race. We’re to run the spiritual race with endurance, realizing it is not a sprint but more of a marathon. Is there any weight you need to lay aside? Are you running your race with endurance and perseverance?
