“Launching Out into the Deep”
My message today is a prophetic message that I felt God placing in me this past month. The prophet Jeremiah expresses so well what I feel – Jeremiah 20:9b “His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.” This word is like a fire burning within me.
There is a call going out from the Spirit of God for a rising up of the saints in this time that we are living in. It is a call of a deeper consecration and a deeper knowing who God is and who we are in Him.
In Isaiah 6 the Lord appears to Isaiah in a dream, Isaiah sees the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train (the back fabric) of the Lord’s robe filled the temple. There is a call from the deep places of the Spirit of God, calling us to go deeper in Him. When the Lord walks in we are being inhabited by the Holy One, the Almighty One, by The High Priest!
Then the Lord takes a live coal, a burning coal, with a tong from the altar and touches Isaiah’s mouth with it. I have been sensing the Lord saying, “Will you let me touch your mouth with my live coal?”
And in the midst of all of this, I hear a call from the Spirit of God going out across our country… “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Who will represent God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit? Who will be a righteous voice for the Lord?
I hear a call, from the Spirit of God, going out to all believers to rise up and take our place. And I hear a call from the deep places of the Spirit of God – deep calling out to deep!
Will we rise up and launch into the deep places of the Lord? Especially in this time?
Will we rise past our flesh and launch into the deep places of the Lord so we can be a God-voice in these times?
Psalm 42:1 “Yearning for God in the Midst of Distresses.”
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for
God, for the living God. The Psalmist expresses his deep grief over what is happening in his world during that time, and he says he pours out his soul within him. He tells God that his soul is cast down within himself.
Verse 7 goes on to say “Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls”
The Hebrew word for noise = “to call aloud; a voice; a sound”
The Hebrew word for waterfalls = “a pipe; spout; conduit”
There is a deep place of the Spirit of God that is calling us to launch into Him, a drawing into those deep places. In this deep place we become a conduit or a pipe for the presence and the voice of the Lord.
Verse 7 goes on to say, “all Your waves and billows have gone over me.”
The Hebrew word for waves = “a breaker” (to be wrecked, crushed)
The Hebrew word for billows = “something rolled”
The Psalmist is saying that all the waves and billows of God have gone over him, God is breaking over him and it’s as if he were being crushed and wrecked for the Lord, as painful as it is, in the midst of this trying time there comes a refining of our very being.
Hosea words it so clearly in 6:1 “For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live in His sight.”
Clearly God does not do bad things to us, but He allows us to go through trying times so that He can reveal to us what we are truly made of and what is deep in our own souls, so that we may live.
Luke 5:4, “When He (Jesus) had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, ‘Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.’”
A. What are the Deep places of the Lord?
“How do we find the deep places of the Lord?”
The deep places of the Lord have to begin with knowing Him, knowing His character, knowing who He really is. The deep places are a depth that is past the surface, past just a knowing there is a God, past just an acknowledgment of God or that there really is a God.
“The deep places cause our heart to see Jesus for Who He is. In the deep place you are in the presence of deity.”
To launch into the deep places, we begin by asking God to show us who He truly is, we begin seeing His character and we answer the call to become like Him.
B. What is His character?
The word character = “The features and traits that form the individual nature of some person”
God’s character is the traits that form His very nature. for example… “God is love.” 1 John 4:8b
It goes deeper than just saying “God is love” within God’s character love is who He is!
“He who does not love does not know God.” In the deep place of God, we see that not only is God love, but if we really want to know God and know the deep places of God, then we will love as He loves.
The very nature of a deep place is that it is not just a surface concept.
His love is unconditional. His love has no favoritism. His love is far reaching. Nothing can separate us from the love of God!
His love is a deep place in Him. Going into the deep places of God requires a catching, with our spirit, the revelation of Who He is – He is love!
Romans 8:38-39 When we see how He loves us, understanding that nothing can separate us from His love and that our love for others should emanate His love for us. Then we catch the very wisdom of His love! This is a mark of being in the deep places of God. A mark of being in the deep places of God is how we are living the revelation we receive in our own life.
When I’ve been in the deep places with God and have a revelation of His love for me, then I will show it to others as I live life. I show love to others out of the deep places I’ve walked with Him, knowing His love for me.
There is a measure of wholeness we will never experience within ourselves unless we are pursuing the deep places of God. In the deep place of His Spirit, we catch the very essence of who He is, and we pursue becoming like Him, the depth of Who He is translates into who we are becoming.
In the deep places are His wisdom and knowledge. His wisdom and His knowledge keep us in right alignment with Him. We are functioning with a mandate from God that we received in the deep places of His Spirit!
C. How do we launch into the deep places of God?
Going into the deep places must become intentional. There must be a pursuing of those deep places, a going past just the surface, and a seeking to enter in and live in the deep places of the Spirit of the Lord.
When you read something in His word – go deeper with it, spend time asking God what are you saying to me in this? Ask God to reveal to you part of His character in what you’ve read and then ask God to show you how you can live this out.
It’s in the deep places of His Spirit that we really see Who He is.
To launch out means = “to thrust out, to put out and to return”. When Peter launched out into the deep, his catch of fish was so great that it was actually breaking the nets.
As we go pursue to go deeper in Him there is a refining that comes to our own character because the deep places in Him are all about who He is, His character being formed in us. There is a fullness and a wholeness in the deep places that we won’t find without going there.
In the deep place is a knowing who you are and Who’s you are. It’s out of the deep place that you then can “go” and “speak” His words with His mandate!
Mandate = “a command or authorization to act in a particular way on a public issue.”
As we respond in these crucial times we are living in, we respond with His character formed in us – not just out of our flesh and our emotions, but out of His emotions, out of His character formed in us, out of being led by the Spirit of God.
