" Conspiracy Theories "
February 17, 2022

Today when something is called a conspiracy theory, the assumption is that it must not be true, and, perhaps, many times is not. However, just because something is called a conspiracy theory doesn’t automatically mean it can’t be true. The Webster Dictionary defines conspiracy theory as “A theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot… also: a theory asserting that a secret of great importance is being kept from the public.” Notice that based on this definition it is possible for a conspiracy to be true!

In Matthew 28:2-15, the tomb of Jesus was found empty. The government made up a story that Jesus’ disciples came and stole his body when the guards fell asleep. Notice that fits Webster’s definition of a conspiracy theory, whereas the real truth was that Jesus rose from the dead. The government no doubt promoted that truth as misinformation and a conspiracy theory!

Could it be that some of what is being called conspiracy theories today are actually true and what we’re being told is true is misinformation and the real conspiracy theories?
