“Hear, O Israel: You are to cross over the Jordan today, and go in to dispossess nations …” (Deut. 9:1-2) “… and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves.” (Deut. 11:23)
Notice that before the Israelites possessed their Promised Land, they had to first dispossess the land of the inhabitants. It would not have worked for the people of God to cohabit with ungodly nations who served false gods.
