“And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, … For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. “ (Heb. 9:15-16)
In a sense, Jesus had a will (the new covenant), notarized the will with his blood, died so the will could be executed, then rose from the dead to oversee the execution of the will.
During the Scottish Reformation, it was illegal for people to attend Reformation meetings. A young Scottish girl was stopped by authorities on her way to a Reformation meeting and they asked her where she was going. She thought for a minute and said, “My eldest brother has died, and I’m going to a family meeting to hear the reading of the will.”
This is a great description of a church meeting! Our eldest brother Jesus has died, and we gather to hear the reading of His will (The Bible, especially The New Testament)!
