In Numbers 13 Moses sent 12 spies to spy out the Land of Canaan, while they were in the wilderness. The spies reported that the land was very fruitful (Num. 13:27), but its inhabitants were big, strong and intimidating (Num. 13:28). “Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.’ But the men who had gone up with him said, ‘We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.’” (Num. 13:30-31; see also verses 32-33) Why did Caleb give a good report while the other spies gave a bad report?
The pessimistic spies leaned on logic, while Caleb leaned on God’s promise. The pessimistic spies compared their opposition to themselves, while Caleb compared the opposition to God! Are you leaning on logic or God’s promises? Are you comparing your opposition to yourself or to your God? Go up at once and take possession for you are well able to overcome it!
