“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
Jesus commanded His followers to not leave the city until they received the Promise of the Father.
What is the Promise of the Father? Jesus described it as being endued with power from on high. In Acts 2:5 Jesus said it was also being baptized with the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to me…” The primary purpose of this power is to be Christ’s witnesses – to live how He wants us to live and to impact the lives of others.
The Greek word for “witnesses” is martyrs! The Holy Spirit wants to empower you to be able to face persecution for the sake of Christ without compromising your faith. Have you received the Promise of the Father?
Have you been endued with power from on high?
