But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the LORD; they shall come into the treasury of the LORD.” (Josh. 6:19)
We’ve been seeing that God declared Jericho (the first city Israel would conquer in the Promised Land) as “cherem” which means devoted to God or devoted [doomed] to destruction (Josh. 6:17). What does God declare as cherem today? That which is to be given to God is cherem (Josh. 6:19). The tithe (10% of one’s income) belongs to God (Lev. 27:30, 32; Mal. 3:10-11).
Could it be that Jericho was a type of the tithe being it was the first of the first ten cities they would take? In other words, Jericho was the first fruits of The Promised Land! Could it be that the tithe is cherem? If so, what are the implications?
