“But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.” (John 17:13)
The dictionary defines joy as a very glad feeling; happiness; great pleasure; delight. Notice the dictionary doesn’t tell us how to get this joy (the source of joy). Jesus tells us the He is the source of joy – that He wants us to have His joy in us so that His joy becomes our joy! In other words, this isn’t our human joy propped up or pumped up but replaced with His joy. In John 15:11 Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” Notice that Jesus wants His joy to remain in us and for that joy to be full. If His joy is to remain in us, then that indicates that this joy is not dependent on our circumstances but our abiding in Christ. You can have this joy no matter what your circumstances!
Jesus also wants our joy to be full (Jn. 15:11; 16:24; 1Jn. 1:4; Acts 2:28; Ps. 16:11). The Greek word for “full” means complete, to cram, level up, satisfy, perfect. What does your joy meter read?
