The dictionary defines joy as a very glad feeling; happiness; great pleasure; delight. Notice the dictionary’s definition doesn’t tell us the source of joy or how to get joy!
Galatians 5:22 says “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, …” 1 Thessalonians 1:6 says “… with joy of the Holy Spirit”.
There are many other verses that connect joy and the Holy Spirit (Acts 13:52; Rom. 14:17; 15:13; etc.)! Notice that the Holy Spirit is the source of joy! In other words, if you lack joy, you are not experiencing all that the Holy Spirit has for you to experience. Because the Holy Spirit is the source of joy, joy is not dependent on outward circumstances!
Whatever you may be going through, you can still have the joy of the Holy Spirit! What does your joy gauge read? Do you need more joy? “Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” (John 16:24) Will you?
