A spirit of lawlessness is currently raging in America, especially in some of our largest cities. The root cause of lawlessness is suppressing the truth (Rom. 1:18-28). How can we combat this spirit of lawlessness?
Last week we looked at two ways we can combat lawlessness:
1. Make Disciples of all People Groups (Matt. 28:18-20).
2. Speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15).
Let’s cover three more ways we can combat lawlessness.
3. Expose the works of darkness (Eph. 5:11).
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” (Eph. 5:11)
Ignoring works of darkness allows those works to continue unabated. We expose works of darkness by shining the light of God’s Word on them. When light and darkness collide, light wins!
4. Live holy and let your light shine (Phil. 2:15; Matt. 5:16).
“That you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.” (Phil. 2:15)
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matt. 5:16)
To counter lawlessness, we should live in the opposite spirit. We should model the life Jesus calls us to live, which will have a positive impact on some.
5. Use the weapons of your warfare (2Cor. 10:4-5).
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” (2Cor. 10:4-5)
God has given us spiritual weapons of faith and prayer to be able to pull down strongholds of lawlessness.
Are you doing your God-given part to combat the spirit of lawlessness? Will you?
